Tiny Treasure
Del Porto is hardly a secret anymore, since being named New Orleans Magazine's Best New Restaurant last year. This is not surprising when you consider their stellar quality but is when you realize this nod covers the entire field in one of the best food cities in the world, and Del Porto is not even in New Orleans.
Cozily located on a quiet side street in the historic district of downtown Covington they manage to perfectly blend national level proficiency with neighborhood trattoria comfort.
Co-chefs and proprietors Torre and David Sollazzo keep a constant flow of new dishes based on fresh regional and excellent ingredients which illustrate their savy academic backgrounds....but without ever overmanipulating the food. As a result even traditonally rich ingredients such as pork and duck have bright, robust flavors without being heavy and there are satisfying vegetarian options available.
Service is warm and attentive and the wine list is interesting and affordable. All combine to make Del Porto one destination restaurant which really lives up to the class.
