Good New Orleans Creole dishes reasonably priced
Open only nine months, "Ignatius' (yes, named for the protagonist in CONSPIRACY OF DUNCES) is one of the best places to enjoy really good, basic New Orleans homestyle Creole food. The small, but balanced menu offers you many choices sure to satisfy any palate. Appetizers include fresh green salads with a tangy sweet vinegrette made in-house, cups of fresh chicken or seafood gumbo, and even the famous Boudin sausage served in it's split casing with crunchy toast triangles. Entrees include some of the best chicken and sausage jambalaya I've eaten, red beans and rice that actually has been cooked all day, and the creamiest Crawfish Etouffe anywhere. There are roast beef or ham PoBoys available (the big seller at lunch) as well as an outstanding Muffaletta. Dessert is the traditional South Louisiana staple Bread Pudding, and it rivals any anywhere. Abita Beers and several local wines are perfect accomaniments to your meal. The walls are stocked with shelves of take-home Louisiana products. Portions served are substantial and easily enough to satisfy the heartiest appetite. Prices are quite inexpensive. Two can dine with an appetizer and a drink or two for less than $50.00. Open Wednesday thru Monday from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM weekdays, and 11:00 AM thru 10:00 PM weekends. Reservations not accepted.
